Aakash Chopra hails Jasprit Bumrah as 'Virat Kohli of Indian bowling'
Bumrah has been the pick of Indian bowlers in both the Test matches and is only growing from strength to strength in his career.
When Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut during the historic T20I series in Australia a couple of years ago, he was seen mainly as a white-ball specialist. Bumrah had gone on to make an instant impact by finishing the series as the highest wicket-taker as India whitewashed Australia 3-0.
Bumrah had grabbed the eyeballs after making his mark in the IPL playing for the Mumbai Indians and was excellent with his death bowling and yorkers. His action and pace made him stand apart from the rest. And in just two years after his debut, Bumrah has become India skipper Virat Kohli‘s go-to man across all the three formats. He is now the No.1 ODI bowler and is making rapid advances in the other formats as well.
Bumrah made his Test debut earlier this year amid a lot of apprehensions over his abilities with the red-ball. It, however, did not take him long to prove his detractors wrong. He made his debut during the series against South Africa and finished with 14 wickets in three games including a five-wicket haul. He then missed the first two Tests in England but made an instant impact when he returned, picking up 14 wickets with another five-wicket haul.
Aakash Chopra impressed
Bumrah has continued with his fine form in the ongoing Test series against Australia too. The speedster has given India the crucial breakthroughs throughout the four Australian innings so far. In the first Test in Adelaide, he picked up six wickets. In Perth, it was he who gave India the much-needed first breakthrough by dismissing Aaron Finch and ending the century-plus stand between the Australian openers. Bumrah then dismissed skipper Tim Paine in the first innings. In the second innings, he picked up three wickets.
Bumrah’s exploits with the ball, meanwhile, has left former India opener, Aakash Chopra, mighty impressed. In fact, Chopra is so fascinated by Bumrah that he called him the Virat Kohli of Indian bowling. Chopra took to Twitter to hail Bumrah and wrote: “Would it be fair to say that Bumrah is Virat Kohli of Indian bowling…across three formats. What a delight to watch him bowl…”
