With all the uncertainties and disturbances around the world, the year 2020 finally came to an end. Though it couldn’t offer all the action to the cricketing fans, it kept them satisfied with limited action towards the end of the year. 2020 had many great moments from the cricket world, both on and off the field. In the same light of reference, former cricketer and analyst Aakash Chopra has come up with his five best cricket moments of 2020.
Starting his list, he chose MS Dhoni’s retirement news as the biggest moment of the year 2020. Nothing could have been a more highlighting moment of the cricket world than the legendary skipper’s retirement from the international world. At no. 2, he added that ace batter Virat Kohli failed to score a century in 2020, and it was great news in the cricket world. None of the years have gone by, since 2008, without a century in his bag, and this stood at no.2 for him.
The biggest story of 2020 was MS Dhoni announcing his retirement: Aakash Chopra
“The biggest story of the year was MS Dhoni announcing his retirement. It was an era that has finished. It was known that he might not play, but the finality was not there. We were all waiting, but 2020 was the year when he announced his retirement through an Instagram video. We all obviously are going to miss him,” said Chopra on his Facebook video.
For no. 3, Chopra chose to go with Mohammad Hafeez’s success in the T20 cricket. He said that Hafeez has done a great job in T20 circuit and also took his team PSL final. For the fourth story, he chose to go with the Mumbai Indians’ winning streak. The classy franchise defended its title in IPL 2020 and lifted it for the record fifth time.
“Then the story of Mumbai Indians. They won the title for the fifth time. Defending the title is a very difficult task, but the margin with which they won, it seemed they were sitting high on the pedestal while others were fighting to reach there. Such dominance is very rarely seen in T20 cricket. They have shown they are the best franchise team in the world,” added Chopra.
Chopra concluded his list by adding James Anderson’s 600 wickets in the Test format as his fifth big moment in the cricket world in 2020. He became the first pacer to achieve the feat.
