Pakistan cricketer Aamer Yamin has been punished by the police for overtaking the vehicle of Divisional Police Officer (DPO). The cricketer was also made to sit for hours in the police station and wasn’t treated properly. However, Twitterati is not at all impressed with the way the youngster has been penalized for only overtaking DPO and has blasted the policemen for terming it as a crime.

Aamer Yamin has been included in the T20I squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka which will commence on October 26. He is making his return to the national side after being sidelined in 2015 post making the debut against England in Sharjah. He is an exciting all-rounder and has impressed the selectors by performing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the domestic T20 tournament of the country. However, he would love to stay away from the controversy ahead of the series and keep himself fit and available for the matches.

Is it a crime?

The cricket fans of Pakistan were not at all amused by the fact that Aamer Yamin was punished and held by the police for hours for just overtaking the vehicle of DPO. The support poured in for the cricketer on Twitter and the men in uniform had to face the heat. While some of the users trolled the police, few were livid with their action and suggested them to respect the national heroes. There were also a few people who asked the police if overtaking a vehicle of a high official is a crime in Pakistan.

Pakistan cricket team led by Sarfraz Ahmed is on a dream run currently in the limited overs format, especially in the 50-overs cricket. They are on the cusp of a historic whitewash as the Men in Green lead the 5-match ODI series against Sri Lanka by 4-0. Last time they had lost in the format was against India in their opening game in the ICC Champions Trophy in June. Also, the last T20I series which they played against World XI at home was won by them by 2-1.

Here’s how Twitterati reacted to the incident:
