AAP files police complaint on Gautam Gambhir; alleges him of having two voter ID cards

The former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined politics last month and is set to contest the general elections from East Delhi constituency. He is busy campaigning for the same currently but has been dealt with a blow now. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged him of possessing two voter ID cards and has launched a criminal complaint against Gambhir.
The complaint has been filed by the political party’s Atishi Marlena. She claimed, in a press conference in Delhi, that Gambhir has multiple voter cards in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar. He also went on to add that Gambhir’s act is punishable under Sec 125A of the Representation of the People Act with up to 6 months of jail time.
Atishi Marlena took to Twitter to reveal the news in which she also tweeted two photographs of the electoral rolls from Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar showing Gautam Gambhir as being registered to vote. “I have filed a criminal complaint against the BJP candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir over his possession of two voter IDs in two separate constituencies of Delhi, Karol Bagh and Rajinder Nagar. #GambhirApradh,” the tweet read.

Gambhir’s campaigning
Gautam Gambhir had held a roadshow in Delhi on Tuesday as he was set to file his nomination for East Delhi’s seat. BJP preferred to give the ticket to the former cricketer ahead of its sitting MP Maheish Giri. Seven Lok Sabha constituencies are set to go to polls on May 12 while the counting of votes are scheduled on May 23.
“I am impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision… I have contributed to the field of cricket and now hope to do more for the country,” he has said upon joining the BJP on March 22.
