Aaron Finch names the best ODI team while playing at home
"If you're slightly off the mark you're going to get hurt."
Aaron Finch hasn’t had the best times of late as far as his international career for Australia is concerned. He floundered in the ODI series against India and then was dropped from the Test team after making his debut last year against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Apart from a few knocks here and there, he couldn’t survive the rigours of the Test format
The Victorian cricketer is now set to captain the national team in the ODI and T20I series against India, which is set to get underway with the 20-overs fixtures. The opening game will be played in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, February 24. In the meantime, Finch, the Aussies limited-overs captain, named the team, who has turned out to be a brute force in ODI cricket on home soil.
Finch makes his pick
“I don’t think you need anything to put a pep in your step when you’re going on an Aussie tour, particularly to India. If you’re slightly off the mark you’re going to get hurt. They’re the best side in one-day cricket in their own conditions, I think. So you’ve got to go there full of confidence and have a real clear game plan,” Finch was quoted as saying in India Today.
India are the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) number-two ranked ODI team and have won series against South Africa, Windies, Australia and New Zealand in the last 12 months. Their only defeat came in the three-match ODI series against England where they lost 1-2 after taking a 1-0 lead. England are the top-ranked team.
As far as Finch is concerned, he recently captained the Melbourne Renegades in the 2018-19 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). Albeit he couldn’t score big for his franchise, he captained his team to a title glory, beating Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars by a mere 13 runs in the final at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
