Aaron Phangiso’s cocaine snorting act caught on camera lands him in trouble
South African bowler Aaron Phangiso got himself in trouble as he imitated snorting cocaine during the South Africa v England 2nd T20I which was caught live on the camera as the home team chased the target down to record 2-0 series win. Phangiso acted as if he was pulling in a line of cocaine from the knee of teammate Quinton de Kock who was sitting just beside. Kagiso Rabada who was sitting just next to the two almost popped out his eye balls at the sight.
It turned out that he was just sharing a light moment with his mates. He was quick to apologies to escape serious action against him. Phangiso was quoted by an English daily saying, “I was sharing a light and humorous moment with my team-mates, but in hindsight I realise it was a silly and irresponsible thing to do. I would like to apologise for my actions and to all those who I may have offended.”
Cricket South Africa spokesperson Altaaf Khazi cleared the air about the incident and said that there was nothing serious in it and it was just a prank. But, he also stated that it was irresponsible and inappropriate of the cricketer to do something like that.
The Daily Mail quoted Cricket South Africa CEO Haroon Lorgat saying, “We understand that Aaron was sharing in a light hearted moment with his team-mates, but his action on television was inappropriate in the light of the drug problem that we are challenged with in South Africa.”
‘We have asked team management to highlight the responsibility all players have in being positive and inspirational role models to the youth of this country,’ he added.
