AB de Villiers added to South Africa squad for final T20I against Sri Lanka

Team South Africa have received a major boost ahead of the final T20I against Sri Lanka. Senior batsman AB de Villiers has been added to the 13 man squad for the T20I to be played on January 25. The news was recently disclosed by the official social media handle of the Cricket South Africa (CSA).

As per the news, AB de Villiers has successfully passed the fitness test and is all set to stage a comeback after almost 6 months. AB last played a competitive cricket match back in July 2016. He had turned up for the Barbados Tridents against the St. Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League.

His last assignment in South African colors was back in July last year when he featured in the tri-series in the Caribbean that involved Australia and West Indies as the other two teams. Since then, he has been out of the side owing to injury. AB de Villiers had to subsequently miss the home series against Australia in which Proteas thumped Aussies 5-0. He also failed to be a part of the Test series down under.

It was expected that he would stage a comeback in the home series against Sri Lanka in the Tests in December last year. However, he failed to recover from the injury and had to sit out for an additional couple of weeks. Now, the stylish batsman is all fit and raring to go. Much to the excitement of his fans, his form is red hot too. In his comeback match in the domestic CSA Provincial One-Day challenger, AB struck a masterly 134 off 103 balls for the Northerns against the Easterns.

He will be the most experienced played in the South African line up in the final T20I against Sri Lanka. The 3-match series is currently leveled 1-1. In a tweet wherein the CSA declared AB de Villiers as fit, they wrote, “Breaking News: AB de Villiers has passed his fitness test &has been added to the Standard Bank Proteas squad for the 3rd #KFCT20 #ProteaFire.”
