AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn in line to make comeback against Zimbabwe
South Africa will take on Zimbabwe in the first-ever four-day Test on the Boxing Day this year.
Veteran South African cricketers, Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers, are likely to stage a comeback in the longest format of the game this December. The two stalwarts of South Africa cricket have been out of action from Tests for over a year now. Now, as per the recent quotes in ESPNcricinfo, the Proteas coach Otis Gibson has hinted at their potential return to the playing side.
South Africa will take on Zimbabwe in the first-ever four-day Test on the Boxing Day this year. Also, it will be a day-night Test affair. The historic game could feature AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn. A journalist asked Gibson if there is a place for ABD in the Test team. He further noted that his question was a ‘stupid’ one.
To this, the Proteas coach gave a cheeky reply hinting at the comeback of the veteran cricketer. “What was it you said first there? You’ve answered your question,” quoted Otis Gibson.
On Dale Steyn
Speaking about Dale Steyn, Gibson mentioned that the pace bowler is a rare talent. He noted that Steyn is raring to go and is always up and running when it comes to turning up for South Africa. Hence, there is every possibility that Steyn could make a comeback to the side some time soon.
“He has got a lot of T20 cricket to play and he has also got a lot of time where we can build up his workload and see that he is 100% fit. He is Dale Steyn. He is not some average guy from down the road. He is one of the best bowlers the country has ever produced. If you look him in the eyes and you say, ‘Dale are you sure you can make it?’ and he says he can make it, then he is getting the opportunity.”
