Not all international cricketers are as sorely missed after their retirement from international cricket but AB de Villiers fans are still not convinced with his decision. He has been off the field for the most part of the year since the conclusion of the IPL and is currently leading the Tshwane Spartans team in the inaugural Mzansi Super League. De Villiers hit a fifty on comeback and more than anything else his switch hit proved to be a memorable one for the fans.
It was the 11th over of the chase against Cape Town Blitz, his team had a target of 181 runs to scale and AB was out there in the middle in the 6th over with the team 27/2. George Linde was the bowler, the fourth ball, he delivered it full, the batsman had made up his mind to switch on this one. He executed it to perfection, timing his switch as well as the shot with precision.
AB, the master he is, knew what the bowler was trying to do there and having preempted it successfully he could get into the position in time for such a high-risk shot. He hit it from the middle of the bat and the ball flew all the way into the stands.
The commentators described it as an outrageous shot and the bowler had no chance when Mr 360 bats like that. He went on to convert that into a fifty and scored 59 off 30 with five sixes. But that wasn’t enough after all. After his dismissal, the Spartans chase slipped and they were bowled out for 131 well short of the target.

Earlier it was Kyle Verreynne and Mohammad Nawaz who helped Cape Town to an above par total of 180 with their half centuries. It was Dean Elgar who set up the chase well with his knock of 32 at number three after both the openers failed. However, chasing a stiff target like that needed more than two batsmen to join the party.
Spartans next play Paarl Rocks on 18th November.
