AB de Villiers in line to make his Test comeback this season
"Last year, in the peak of the season, I was less ready for Test cricket than I am now," quoted AB de Villiers.
Veteran South African cricketer, AB de Villiers, is all set to make his comeback in the upcoming home season of the Proteas team. He has been out of action from the longest format of the game for almost a year now. The Proteas are lined up to host Zimbabwe and India as their next two assignments. Zimbabwe is scheduled to play a four match day-night Test against South Africa.
Prior to that, they will play a 3-day warm up game against the South African Invitation XI. Now, the recent reports suggest that AB de Villiers is likely to be a part of the warm-up fixture to get good practice under his belt. The convenor of selectors of the national side recently confirmed the same. The only problem that persists is to find a place in the national setup to accommodate ABD.
“We’d like to get him back in whites as soon as possible and we have some plans in place. There’s the practice match which will be good for him. The manner in which he has played has shown that he is ready. It was never a case of him being rusty but just about getting him match fitness,” Linda Zondi, South Africa’s convener of selectors told ESPNcricinfo.
“For us as selectors, it’s about getting him into the squad and then it will be worked out from there. It’s a nice problem to have,” Zondi noted.
ABD confident of a good return
Meanwhile, the man himself, AB de Villiers, is confident of making a comeback. He noted that he has given a good rest to his body and is feeling fit to take the field again. He is ready for the Test cricket action now. He remarked that he has worked on his skills and techniques.
“I’ve had time at home to get fresh, time to work on my body, and time to work on skills I’ve not worked on in many years. I’ve sort of rediscovered that love of the game. I’ve not had an off-season where I’ve gone to nets to work on my skills and technique for ages. Last year, in the peak of the season, I was less ready for Test cricket than I am now,” quoted AB de Villiers.
