AB de Villiers is one of the most loved cricketers in India. The South Africa legend has been a regular face of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has made a notable partnership both on and off the field with team India’s Captain Virat Kohli.
Destructive on the field with the bat, de Villiers is told to be a calm and cool-headed person off it. A caring father, animal lover, and peace-loving person, his life story about how he met his wife Danielle de Villiers, and how did the two get engaged is equally interesting.
In a recent Q & A session on Instagram, Danielle was asked by one of her supporters about her marriage with ABD. “Is your marriage love or arranged? If love marriage, then who proposed first and where?” read the question.
In response, Danielle wrote, “I’ve received a lot of questions about this. We did not have an arranged marriage guys, love marriage. AB proposed to me at the Taj Mahal in Agra, India”.
The story behind AB de Villiers’ marriage
AB de Villiers had met Danielle at a lodge where he was with her mother for lunch. On finishing the meal, he was introduced to the owner of the place, John Swart, Danielle’s father. AB had earlier described what happened when he proposed Danielle in front of the iconic Taj Mahal.
During an interaction on the web series “What the Duck” AB told “About a couple of months leading up to the IPL, I was obviously planning, got the ring and all that, and I decided to do it there. And once I got to the IPL, I got “security guards”, who were actually photographing and videographers to film the whole thing, but I told Danielle that I have to travel with security guards, so that’s why they got to go with us. And it ended up to be a great surprise and I got it all on camera.”
“That was a very special time in my life. I surprised Danielle completely. She didn’t know a thing about it. And I could not have done it at a more special place than that,” he told.
