AB de Villiers will boost South Africa, jests Jacques Kallis
ABD is set to make a return in the whites after restricting himself to limited-overs cricket for a while.
AB de Villiers has been one South Africa’s instrumental run-getters in international cricket. He has been a pivotal factor in the Proteas’ ascendancy in world cricket. He was recently named in South Africa’s Test squad for their home Test series against India starting 5th January at the Newlands in Cape Town.
Lately, the Pretoria-born cricketer has shown top-notch form in the limited formats. He will be looking to carry forward the same form in the upcoming Test series against the current world number one Test team. In a recent interview, Jacques Kallis, former all-rounder, affirmed that the inclusion of de Villiers will boost the team going into the all-important series.
Praises for AB
“He’s (AB de Villiers) said that he is going to come and play. I think after the Bangladesh series he said he’s making himself available for all three formats which is great news for South Africans. He is a world-class player” hailed Kallis as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
The legend also emphasised the significance of de Villiers’ presence on any side and how he impacts a team lineup. “Any team with AB de Villiers in it makes it a hell lot of a stronger. So I’m looking forward to him performing for South Africa,” Kallis added.
AB has recently played the ODI and T20 international series against Bangladesh where he has racked up runs at will. In the second ODI at Paarl, the swashbuckling batsman tormented the visitors’ bowlers to notch 176 runs off 104 balls, which included 51 boundaries and seven monstrous hits into the stands.
En route his jaw-dropping knock, he also became the third highest individual score for South Africa after Quinton de Kock, Francois de Plessis and Gary Kirsten. They would want him to hit his straps from the outset in order for the Proteas to get India on the mat in the upcoming bilateral series.
