Abdul Razzaq feels Mickey Arthur will relinquish the head coach job only after he passes away
Abdul Razzaq was in the news for the wrong reasons when he offered coaching for India all-rounder Hardik Pandya a few days back.
The Pakistan team has been receiving great criticism for their performance in the World Cup 2019. Had to team clung on to a few crucial moments in the tournament, they’d have easily made it into the semis. However, that wasn’t to be it as Sarfaraz Ahmed and his men had to exit due to a poor run rate. Former all-rounder Abdul Razzaq was clearly frustrated and vented his frustration out on head coach Mickey Arthur.
Abdul was in the news for the wrong reasons even a few days ago. After India lost the game to England, he lashed out at the players and even involved a religious angle to it. He accused the ‘Men in Blue’ that they didn’t do well intentionally since they were not Muslims. Now, yet again, he has made the headlines with another controversial statement.
Comments made on television by former players were disgraceful
The 39-year-old Lahore-born cricketer said that Mickey Arthur wouldn’t leave the head coach job until he was dead. These statements have taken the internet by a storm. Pakistan sports journalist Saj Sadiq put these comments by Abdul Razzaq in his tweet. Sadiq condemned these comments that were made and called them to be nothing short of disgraceful.
“Some of the comments being made on television by former players are nothing short of disgraceful. Abdul Razzaq: ‘The only way Mickey Arthur will leave the Pakistan coaching job is when he passes away’,” wrote Saj Sadiq in his tweet.
A topsy-turvy ride for Mickey Arthur thus far
Mickey Arthur took over the responsibilities of the Pakistan team in 2016. He coached the Australia and South Africa teams earlier in his career. After the Champions Trophy triumph in 2017, his contract was extended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for another two years. His contract has ended with Pakistan crashing out of the World Cup this year.
Except for the win in the Champions Trophy, there aren’t many other significant achievements for the team under Arthur. The board is yet to take a decision if they will extend his contract for some more time. In the light of all this, Abdul Razzaq made his comments.
