Former Pakistani all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has become the latest big name to have joined the Afghanistan’s home grown T20 League. The Afghanistan’s T20 League, known as the Shpageeza Cricket League, has been running since the last year. The tournament saw the domestic stars participate in the inaugural edition.
This year, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is keen on increasing the number of participants in the league. Also, they are trying their best to lure some big names from world cricket to their league. Cricket in Afghanistan has been on the rise. And with initiatives such as these, it is only going to get bigger and better.
As per the recent reports in Geo.Tv, Abdul Razzaq has been signed by the team Amo Sharks in the Shpageeza Cricket League. It was not very long ago when former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi had announced that he would be a part of the Afghanistan’s T20 League. With two big Pakistani names on the roster, Shpageeza seems to be heading the right direction.
PCB unhappy with the decision
While the players have shown their interest in being a part of the league, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is reportedly unhappy with the players making such commitments. The cricket relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been on a sour note for quite some time. Some sources noted that the PCB is unhappy with Shahid Afridi taking such a decision.
Also, the PCB might not even issue the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the players. In case the NOC is not granted by the PCB, Abdul Razzaq and Shahid Afridi will fail to take part in the T20 league. Among the other players from Pakistan who are expected to play in the Afghanistan league are Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Babar Azam, Sohail Tanveer and Ruman Raees.
The Shpageeza T20 League will be played this month. All the matches will be played in the newly constructed venue at Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan.
