Abdur Razzak was unaware about being picked by Rangpur Riders

Veteran left-arm off-spinner Abdur Razzak who has been picked up by Rangpur Risers for the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), has claimed that he was completely unaware of it. The 35-year-old cricketer revealed so while talking to Bangla newspaper Kaler Kantho while playing in the ongoing National Cricket League (NCL) for Khulna Division during the player draft and claimed that he was literally unaware of it.

It was during the lunch break of the day when his teammates informed him about his new BPL team. The experienced spinner played for Chittagong Vikings in the previous season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The veteran campaigner also said that he would try his best to something special for his new team.

“Frankly speaking, I didn’t know about the player draft. NCL is not a small event and I was busy with it. I got to know about my new team during the lunch break. Cricket is always challenging and in T20, the situation is same to me. I will try hard to do something special for Rangpur Riders,” he added.

As many as 112 local players were up for grabs while 208 overseas players were available in the lottery-based players recruitment programme. While there were 22 local players in grade B, 44 players were in both grade C and D.

The six teams of the previous edition were allowed to retain three players from their squads, apart from the icon player. Newly included Sylhet Sixers chose Sabbir Rahman as their icon player before picking their first-choice local players in Nasir Hossain, Nurul Hasan and Taijul Islam.

Mustafizur Rahman, who missed out on being one of the icon players in Bangladesh Premier League 2017 after Barisal Bulls were removed, was the first player to be picked up at the players’ draft in Dhaka on Saturday and the expected star attraction of the draft was bagged by Rajshahi Kings for USD 60,000.
