Karnataka is having a brilliant domestic season so far having won the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019 and Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2019-20. The Manish Pandey-led team has been dominating the domestic cricket scene for some time now and must be looking forward to the upcoming Ranji Trophy season under the leadership of Karun Nair.
However, it might not be such smooth sailing for the team given that they have already been dealt some shocking injury blows before their tournament opener against Tamil Nadu. This includes their 2018-19 Ranji Trophy top scorer KV Siddharth, who had made 728 runs. He has suffered a serious shoulder injury during the Vijay Hazare Trophy and has failed to completely recover from that. Apart from him, they will also miss two of their most potent bowlers as well.
Karnataka to miss services of Abhimanyu Mithun and Prasidh Krishna
Karnataka will open their account in Ranji Trophy against Tamil Nadu from December 9 to 12 in Dindigul. However, they will miss the services of Abhimanyu Mithun and M Prasidh Krishna for the match, given that both are suffering from injuries. Mithun has suffered from back spasm which was the reason behind him missing the final of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy.
He had picked 26 wickets in the last season. Along with him, Prasidh Krishna has been dealing with a troublesome ankle and is yet to recover from the same. Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Manish Pandey won’t be available for the domestic season at the start, as they have been named in the Indian squad for the West Indies limited-overs series starting from December 6.
Meanwhile, the KSCA has named uncapped right-arm fast bowler KS Devaiah in the squad and selection committee chairman Raghuram Bhat was excited with the prospect that Devaiah has shown on the field. “He is an exciting young fast bowler and he was very impressive during the Thimmappaiah tournament,” he was quoted as saying by The Hindu. Also included in the squad David Mathias, who last played for Karnataka three years ago.
Karnataka squad for Ranji trophy:
Karun Nair (c), Mayank Agarwal, Devdutt Padikkal, D. Nischal, Pavan Deshpande, B. R. Sharath, Sharath Srinivas, Ronit More, David Mathias, V. Koushik, Shreyas Gopal, K. Gowtham, J. Suchith, R. Samarth, and K. S. Devaiah.
