Abhimanyu Mithun named in Duleep Trophy squad; set to miss KPL 2018
The 28-year old last played for India in 2011.
With the KPL 2018 just days away, reports have emerged that 28-year old Abhimanyu Mithun will take part in the upcoming edition of the Duleep Trophy. While this is certainly good news for Mithun, it is not particularly good news for the Shivamogga Lions who signed Mithun for 8.3 Lakhs. In fact, Mithun is one of the highest paid players in the competition and now the Lions will have a task on their hands to try and replace him.
Mithun last played for India in 2011 following some spectacular performances in the domestic circuit for Karnataka. However, a few weak bowling performances eventually saw his run in the side come to an abrupt end after playing five ODIs and four Test matches. He will play for India Red in the Duleep Trophy 2018.
Vinay Mruthyunjaya, Official Spokesperson of KSCA told Sportskeeda: “A. Mithun has been selected to represent India Red team for the Duleep Trophy tournament which is to be held between August 17th to 29th, 2018. Hence, Mithun, who attracted the highest bid at the Karnataka Premier League Player auction on Saturday, will be unavailable for the KPL season VII. Shivamogga Lions will be allowed to seek replacement”
Ressurection on Mithun’s mind
At the moment, despite being 28, Mithun is quite clearly looking for a way back into the Indian side. He continues to be one of the important members of the Karnataka squad which reached the semifinal in the previous edition of the Ranji Trophy.
Mithun has also featured for the Royal Challengers Bangalore as well as the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. The previous season of the KPL, Mithun had been picked up by the Bijapur Bulls for a fee of 5.7 Lakhs and had performed considerably well with both bat and ball.
