Abu Dhabi T10 League 2021: Day 4 – Round-Up
Nicholas Pooran’s insane knock of 89 from just 27 against the Bangla Tigers was the highlight of day four.
The fourth day of the Abu Dhabi T10 League commenced with the Pune Devils taking on Team Abu Dhabi. After the latter elected to field, it was once again Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the second-leading scorer of the league thus far, who pulverized the bowlers mercilessly. Hitting five sixes and as many fours in his 61-run knock, which took only 25 deliveries, he powered the Devils to 129/4.
Obed McCoy was at his sensational best, bagging a couple of scalps and giving away merely 9 from his two overs. In response, a series of cameos after another disappointing outing of Chris Gayle guided Team Abu Dhabi to a 5-wicket win with 9 balls remaining, despite a three-for for Hardus Viljoen. It began with Paul Stirling’s breezy 23 from 9 alongside Joe Clarke, who himself smacked 7 fours in his 9-ball appearance.
Having lost Luke Wright cheaply, Jamie Overton went berserk as he raced off to 38 from just 11, hitting three maximums and four fours.
The second fixture between the Northern Warriors and Bangla Tigers was only about the indescribably insane carnage of Nicholas Pooran. Not even in video games does one clears the field with the ease with which Pooran did during his ridiculous six-hitting exhibition. Smothering 12 sixes in his incredulous knock of 89 off just 26, he, alongside Lendl Simmons (41 from 22), flew his team to 162/4.
Within a touching distance of a century that would have been for the ages to remember, Pooran was adjudged out by the third umpire on a debatable catch by Karim Janat at extra cover, although his knock was entertainment personified. Requiring over 16 every over, the start for the Tigers could not have been worse as they lost Johnson Charles for a two-ball duck.
Andre Fletcher, who slammed four sixes and as many fours in his 28-ball 53, and Chirag Suri, who teed off to 42 from merely 16 with five sixes, tried their best to keep the chase alive, however, they eventually fell 30 short of the target to give Warriors a comprehensive victory.
Much like the previous three days, the track became slightly two-paced after the conclusion of the first two fixtures, and 11 wickets fell in the last game between Qalandars and Deccan Gladiators. After being put to bat by the Gladiators, Sohail Akhtar’s (71 from 31) onslaught in tandem with Tom Banton’s 36-run cameo led the Qalandars to 118/3.
In response, barring the openers Mohammad Shahzad (27 from 17) and Cameron Delport (19 from 11), no other batsman could contribute, and as many as 7 of them failed to even reach into double figures. Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers, as he bagged three wickets in his parsimonious two-over spell of 8 runs. The Gladiators tumbled for 85/8, losing the match by a massive margin of 33 runs.
