Actress Gauhar Khan comes out in support of Sarfaraz Ahmed for wearing Salwar Kameez
Before Gauhar, playback singer Sona Mohapatra had also defended Sarfaraz Ahmed for wearing the salwar kameez.
Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed had raised quite a number of eyebrows with his attire when he went to visit the Buckingham Palace to meet Queen Elizabeth before the ICC World Cup opening ceremony. While all the other nine captains of the participating teams were donning coats and pants, Sarfaraz was wearing salwar kameez. Unsurprisingly, there were mixed reactions on the same as many praised the Pakistan star for respecting his culture while there were many who criticised him for it.
But it would not be entirely wrong to say that Sarfaraz has received more support than criticism for his dress code. In a pleasant surprise, even the Indians fans and celebrities have praised the Champions Trophy-winning captain. And the latest celebrity to throw support behind Sarfraz is Bollywood actress Gauhar Khan. Gauhar came to Sarfaraz’s rescue and openly supported him on Twitter.
“!He is representing his culture, n looking v handsome in that! Every human being has the right to wear what he does ,with dignity n pride! But I guess u wouldn’t know anything about belonging or representing ,as u have identity crisis urself !,” wrote Gauhar Khan on Twitter.

Sarfaraz on the criticism:
The Pakistan captain, meanwhile, himself defended his decision to wear the traditional attire after facing backlash from several quarters. He revealed that he had instructions from the board for the same as he tried to promote Pakistan’s national dress.
“The salwar kameez is our national dress and I got instructions from the board to do all these things so I tried to promote our national dress. I felt very proud that the other captains were wearing suits but I was wearing national dress,” Sarfaraz Ahmed had said before Pakistan’s World Cup-opener.
Sarfaraz will now be looking to guide Pakistan to their first win of the competition. The Men in Green suffered a crushing 7-wicket loss at the hands of Windies in their World Cup-opener. They will now take on hosts and favourites England on Monday.
