Actress Gauhar Khan thinks Ambati Rayudu should have been in India’s World Cup squad
Rayudu has received a lot of support from cricketing as well as non-cricketing fraternity since the World Cup squad was announced.
The disappointment of Ambati Rayudu missing out on a berth in the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 has reached even celebrities outside the realm of cricket. When the Indian squad for the mega ICC event was announced, everyone was shocked to see Rayudu’s name missing from the list.
The BCCI selectors chose Vijay Shankar’s ‘3-dimensional’ abilities over Rayudu’s struggle in recent matches. The Hyderabad cricketer was the chosen man for the no.4 spot in the Indian team until he struggled against teams like Australia and New Zealand even at home. Shankar, on the other hand, impressed one and all with his batting, fielding and occasional bowling abilities and in the end, was chosen over the 34-year-old.
Actress Gauhar Khan sympathizes with Ambati Rayudu
Rayudu was so distraught at his omission from the Indian World Cup squad, that he took to Twitter and took a dig at the selectors, who had termed Shankar’s three-dimensional skills as the reason for choosing him over Rayudu. He tweeted, “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup 😉😋..”
Gauhar Khan is a well-known actress and model famous for her appearances in movies like Ishaqzaade and Badrinath Ki Dulhania amongst others. In 2013, Gauhar became the winner of the reality show Bigg Boss 7. She thus took to Twitter and showed compassion for Rayudu in a post which read, “U should’ve been in the the squad @RayuduAmbati #honest ! Shine on”
Ambati Rayudu had made a comeback into the Indian team for the 2018 ODI series in England, on back of a strong showing in IPL 2018 for Chennai Super Kings. He joined the list of players like Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni and many more to play at no.4 spot in Indian playing XI and perhaps looked a strong candidate to fill that role, and had even gotten a vote of confidence from Indian captain Virat Kohli.
He scored an ODI century against West Indies at home and had decent enough scores in the Asia Cup 2018. However, things began to unravel as he faced stiffer bowling attacks on sporting pitches in Australia and New Zealand, and though he played a match-winning innings in an ODI against New Zealand, Vijay Shankar’s flair overtook Rayudu’s resilience and with a couple of failures against Australia at home, the writing was on the wall.
