Sri Lanka Cricket President, Thilanga Sumathipala speaks during a press conference in Colombo on July 6, 2016. Sri Lanka's cricket board said it will seek compensation from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) over the wrongful suspension of wicket keeper Kusal Perera. Perera was suspended during Sri Lanka's tour of New Zealand last December after WADA said he had tested positive for a banned substance, a finding the laboratory later revised. / AFP / LAKRUWAN WANNIARACHCHI (Photo credit should read LAKRUWAN WANNIARACHCHI/AFP/Getty Images)

According to recent reports, the Anti-corruption unit of Sri Lanka Cricket, which operates under the ICC, has confirmed that Sri Lanka chief Thinlanga Sumathipala is clear of the recent allegations leveled on him. The allegations were his involvement in the gaming industry which is in violation of the Sri Lankan sports law.

The Main Story

A few news websites had reported that Sumathipala had accepted his role in the gaming industry and will have to resign from his current post in SLC. But cricketage.in has called the news as bogus and misquotation of the extracts from an ongoing court case between Sumathipala and former World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga. The former has filed a suit against Ranatunga in a defamation case.

Sumathipala, in 2011, had quoted that his family is involved in a gaming industry. This statement was quoted long before the election of the 53-year old for his second stint at the SLC.

The website further reports that Sumathipala is in full compliance with the applicable clauses of ICC and Sri Lanka sports law. The levied charges against him have no substance.

Claims of a website

“Accordingly, it has been established beyond any doubt subsequent to due diligence by both the Ministry of Sport and the International Cricket Council that Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala has no connection whatsoever with the gaming industry either directly or indirectly. Furthermore, the Anti-Corruption Unit of SLC which operates under the ICC has confirmed that the allegations being levelled at Hon. Sumathipala with regard to connections with the gaming industry has no substance,” reported cricketage.in

The website also appealed all the reporters to not use the ‘malicious’ reports which are been circulated by rival parties with vested interests. It also appealed all the editors to give their report publicity in the best interest of Sri Lanka cricket.

With their national team struggling, Sri Lanka’s administration is facing a lot of troubles too. Many former cricketers have refused to work with the current faction in the board which ultimately is cricket’s loss.
