After a scintillating season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the decision came in as a shocker for the cricket fans. None of the cricketing fans expected this decision from AB de Villiers, who was probably in his best form this Indian Premier League.
ABD’s form in the IPL was a positive sign for the Proteas, who looked to the right-hander to lead the batting-order for the 2019 World Cup. However, what Cricket South Africa did not know was that AB de Villiers had other plans for the cricketing fraternity.
The in-form right-hander batsman surprised the entire world by announcing his immediate retirement. Further, ABD also talked about the factors that led him to take such a decision. ABD specified how he wanted to contribute to all the three formats for South Africa, without being able to pick and choose.
A shocking decision for the fans:
It was a shocking decision for the fans, however, ABD was very clear why he took such a decision talking about how the game has burned him out in the last few years. For Faf du Plessis, the decision might have been the most shocking since the right-hander is very much into the scheme of things, if not the middle of the plans for South Africa in the World Cup.
Another swashbuckling batsman and a fearless batsman Adam Gilchrist appreciated the South African for taking such a brave decision despite the world going against him when he took the decision.
What did Gilchrist tweet?
“@ABdeVilliers17 Exquisite timing as usual. Congratulations, so happy for you and your family. Respect ✊”, said the former Australian wicketkeeper following ABD’s decision earlier in the day.

The entire cricketing fraternity is split over AB de Villiers’ decision to call it a quits. While most of them are sad that the right-hander took the decision too soon, the others are fretting over the decision taken by AB de Villiers with the World Cup looming around the corner.
