Adam Gilchrist congratulates Rishabh Pant after he registered a ton on his mother's birthday
The century was special for a lot of reasons as Pant also became the first Indian wicketkeeper to register a three-figure score Down Under in Tests.
2019 kick-started in a dreamy way for India’s new batting sensation Rishabh Pant, who is making fans go gaga and sing songs with his performance in the ongoing Test series. With a mind-boggling performance at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the fourth Test, the wicketkeeper well and truly marked his arrival at the International stage and is definitely roaring for more success.
Pant remained unbeaten on 159 off 189 balls when skipper Virat Kohli declared India’s first innings at 622/7, right after Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed for 81. Cheteshwar Pujara continued his majestic form earlier on Day 2 but fell seven runs short of a well-deserved double ton. Australia had collected 24 runs without losing a wicket before stumps on Day 2.
The century was special for a lot of reasons as Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to register a three-figure score Down Under in Tests. This is also the highest score for an Indian keeper away from home, surpassing MS Dhoni’s 148 at Faisalabad. But most importantly, it was also his mother’s birthday, which made this knock more special for him.
Pant posts an emotional message for his mom
2018 was a pretty difficult and challenging year for Pant, who lost his father and also made huge inroads into the International circuit. His family too have gone through a lot during this period and he definitely couldn’t have timed this knock better.
“Happy birthday mom. You are the person who is always behind me no matter what. I love you so much. I still remember the time when you used to travel with me for my practices and matches. Thank you for taking all the stress of mine and making it yours can’t even express my feelings in words. Love you and happy birthday once again,” Pant posted on his official Instagram handle.
Former Australian skipper Adam Gilchrist too replied to that post saying,” Nice way to mom’s milestone mate.” There were many other big names from the fraternity sending their best wishes to the 21-year-old including English women’s cricketer Danielle Wyatt and IPL franchise Delhi Capitals’ official Insta handle.
