Adam Gilchrist 'steals' a quote from Jacques Kallis to tweet about England's highest ODI total
England posted 481/6 in 50 overs.
It was a horrific day for bowlers as the Aussies conceded 481 runs in 50 overs against England batsmen. Right from Jonny Bairstow to Alex Hales, each and every English batsman contributed in their own way. Bairstow registered his sixth ODI ton and Alex Hales went on to score 92-ball 147-run knock to put up the highest ever ODI total in the history of cricket.
On a batting wicket, it was Tim Paine, who wanted England to bat first after winning the toss. In came, Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy. The pair started decimating each and every Aussie bowler to score 159-run partnership before the latter lost his wicket via run out for 82 runs off 61 balls. But, Jonny continued to smack Aussies all over the park.
Bairstow went on to register his sixth century, all of them at above 100 strike-rate. He smashed 92-ball 139-run knock before getting out to Ashton Agar with 5 boundaries and 15 sixes. England lost their second wicket at 310 runs in the form of Jonny Bairstow. Alex Hales at No. 3 was at his best to decimate the Aussies bowlers as he brought up his century in no time.
Eoin Morgan played one of the explosive knocks as he registered his half-century in just 21 balls, making it the fastest ever half-century in England ODI cricket history. Morgan lost his wicket for 67 runs. Hales registered 147 runs before getting out to Jhye Richardson. The Aussie pacer picked up three wickets for 92 runs in his 10-over quota.
