Veteran Australian cricketer Adam Voges is contemplating retirement from international cricket after losing his spot from the national Test side. The 37-year-old suffered a concussion during a Sheffield Shield game after being hit on the head by a fierce bouncer. Making his Test debut only last year, Voges had a tremendous start to his international career. Even now when he is not in the contention for a national call-up.

Voges has a staggering Test average of over 61 in his 20 matches Test career so far. The Western Australia captain is currently playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Perth Scorchers and will take a call on his future after the conclusion of BBL and Sheffield Shield. Voges last appeared for Australia against South Africa in the Hobart Test.

During an exclusive chat with Radio 6PR was reluctant to comment on his future plans. “I don’t know,” Voges said. “I will sit down at the end of this summer and work out whether that’s it for me, or whether I think I’ve got another year.”

“It will come down to whether I think I am performing well enough and whether I’m enjoying it, whether the body will hold and whether there are some young guys who need opportunities,” he added. “I will weigh all of that up,” he added.

Ever since Voges struck a terrific 239 against New Zealand at Wellington he has had a horrendous time. In the 6 Tests since he managed a solitary fifty and averaged 7.50 in the Test series against the Proteas which forced the selectors to drop him.

“I’m realistic enough to know that my form didn’t warrant me getting back in the side and at my age, I’m probably not getting back in at this stage,” Voges said.

He admitted that he does get a little bit of dizziness every now and then but was quick to add that it was nothing serious as such. “There’s been the odd headache or two and a little bit of dizziness every now and then,” he said. “I’ve been assured that there’s nothing too sinister about it all,” Voges concluded.
