Adam Voges sidelined for the next couple of weeks at least

37-year-old Perth Scorchers batsman Adam Voges is set to miss out on the next few matches for his side in the Big Bash League following a hamstring injury he sustained against the Sydney Thunder on the 1st of January at the WACA in Perth. Voges underwent an MRI scan that eventually proved to be an aggravation of a previous hamstring injury, something that is considered as a minor injury.

Voges is expected to be back in action soon. However, this does not translate to the way the Scorchers have played since the Perth-based side sits on top of the table at the moment. In spite of being their captain for the season, Voges has been a bitter disappointment with the bat. The Perth Scorchers might well have a 3-1 winning record in the 2016 edition of the Big Bash League, but Voges’ string of poor scores has certainly not boded well with some of the team management, the support staff, and the fans.

In the four matches he has played, all of his four scores have been single digits with the final score of three being the unbeaten one where he hobbled off to the haven of the dressing room to receive medical attention.

The MRI scan also went on to reveal that the aggravation was caused by a pre-existing hamstring issue the 37-year-old had suffered during the first Test match against South Africa in the series previous to the one against Pakistan. Having been dropped from the side following a string of poor performances, it is clear that his focus will well and truly be on earning his place back with a few strong performances in the BBL.

As far as his form in the tournament goes, it is clear that he is an important member of the side despite his obvious shortcomings with the bat. His place will become all the more important when the Marsh brothers Shaun and Mitchell are released from the Scorchers side to join up with the Australian side for the upcoming ODI and T20I series’ against Pakistan.
