Perth Scorchers’ two-time BBL championship winning skipper Adam Voges has decided to stick along with the team for the upcoming season as well. He has been a part of the franchise since BBL 3 and won them the glory twice; first defending their title in the third season taking over from Simon Katich and then in the previous edition to regain the champion status.

The team made the announcement that the 38-year-old has agreed to extend his stay and named the local players in the team as well. Voges said that it was a pretty easy decision for him to agree to come back and play for the team in front of the huge crowd that turns up at the Furnace.

“The opportunity to come back here to #TheFurnace and play in front of big crowds again made it a pretty easy decision to re-sign,” Voges was quoted as saying by perthscorchers.com.au. “The success we’ve had over the entire Big Bash has been exciting and lifting the BBL Trophy last year was a highlight of our entire season,” he added.

Incredibly strong squad

He praised the team they have as he thinks it has incredible depth and strength to replicate the performance they put up last season.

“I think we’ll have an incredibly strong squad. One of our big advantages has been the depth of our squad and I’ve got no doubt it’ll be very similar this year. We’ve got a big challenge in front of us – there’s seven other very good teams trying to knock us off,” Voges said.

“We understand that we can’t become complacent this season, but I’ve got no doubt that we’ve got a squad that’s capable of having another successful season.”

Perth Scorchers squad:

Adam Voges (C), Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Jason Behrendorff, Hilton Cartwright, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Michael Klinger, Mitch Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Sam Whiteman.

The veteran who held the second best Test average of 61.87 after playing 20 matches only behind the legend Don Bradman called it time on his international career in 2016.
