Adam Zampa frustrated to be on the losing side

Adam Zampa was the star of the show despite his side’s loss against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He concluded with perhaps the best ever figures in IPL history, picking up 6/19 in his four overs. However, he ended up on the losing side as the Supergiants batsmen failed to reach the total posted by the Sunrisers. Zampa stated that it was indeed never a nice feeling to be on the losing side, especially after such a good performance with the ball.

“It’s frustrating either way, if you get wickets or not, to be on the losing side. It’s never a nice feeling, particularly when your season is probably over as well. But we’re going to be together for the next season and try and gain some momentum going into that,” Zampa said when asked about his phenomenal efforts, which eventually weren’t enough to help his team prevent another defeat.

The MS Dhoni-led franchise employed a baffling tactic while batting by promoting Ravichandran Ashwin up the order. However, Zampa felt that Ashwin played quite nicely to score the 20 odd runs that he did.

“It’s always hard on these wickets.(It’s) very hard to score and when you lose a couple of wickets it doesn’t help. I actually thought Ashwin came up and played quite nicely for his 25 (29) or so. On these type of wickets, you got to try and have wickets in the shed at the end and hopefully you can get 10 or 12 an over in the end. It was going to go one way or the other,” Zampa said.

“I’m not too sure what the thinking was (behind Ashwin’s promotion), it wasn’t spoken about, I was just sitting there and watching when Ashwin walked out. As I said he played nicely and there were no small targets (that Supergiants were looking at). As I said, on these wickets you got to have some power in the shed and we do with MS [Dhoni] and [Thisara] Perera. You got to back yourself to get those, 12 or 13 runs per over. As I said it was going to go one way or the other and tonight it didn’t go our way,” Zampa reasoned, when asked about Ashwin batting up the order.

“Personally, yeah great experience. I haven’t spent a lot of time around Indian players before and obviously to be around guys like MS, Rahane, Ashwin – the experienced guys – it’s always nice to learn from them,” he said.

“As a team (it’s been) disappointing but we’ve made it quite clear that we’ve got another year, maybe more together. It’s always going to be tough, to come together like that and not have much camaraderie and do well. One year together, hopefully, we can build the momentum on the back end this year and that can put us in good stead for the next season,” Zampa concluded.
