David Warner clinched the Alan Border Medal

Coming back to the awards, Marnus Labuschagne’s meteoric rise in International cricket completed a full circle when he was awarded the coveted prize of being the best Test player of the year. Coming in as concussion substitute for Steven Smith during the Lord’s Test in the Ashes, Marnus never really looked back and proceeded to rack up truckloads of runs to establish himself as the next big thing in world cricket.

The right-hander also made his debut in One-day International cricket where he scored his maiden half-century in his third ODI against India. White-ball captain Aaron Finch s conferred with the ICC ODI Cricket of the Year while his fellow opening partner was conferred with the honour of being the best T20I player of the year for 2019-20.

Southern stars all-rounder, Elysse Perry, who played a substantial part in Australia winning the Ashes was given the Belinda Clark award- given to the best female cricketer in the country while David Warner took home the biggest award of the night- The Allan Border medal- for the third time in his decorated career.

Warner made a stupendous comeback post his ball-tampering scandal, and although he struggled in the Ashes series,  he did have a great World Cup where he finished as the second-highest run-getter. Besides that, he also mauled the Pakistan and New Zealand bowling attacks in the home season and also proceeding to rack up Australia’s highest individual Test score- 335 vs Pakistan.
