Adil Rashid is improving slowly, but surely: Saqlain Mushtaq
The English spin bowling consultant Saqlain Mushtaq was all praises for leg-spinner Adil Rashid. Rashid has clearly been the pick of the bowlers for England on the tour thus far. Despite England trailing 2-0 in the series, Rashid’s individual performances have been good. Mushtaq spoke on how he is helping Rashid get better as a bowler. He gave his verdict on the way the young all-rounder has shaped up in the last few months.
Saqlain mentioned that he had a brief chat with Rashid when they first met. Having met him, he realized that Rashid already has some handy bag of tricks up his sleeve. He did not have to work very hard in getting Rashid in full flow. Covering the basics was more than enough for handling him.
“He is bowling beautifully. We actually are trying to make things simple rather than complicated. We are working on the technical side of it as well. Have to actually set the field to keep him relaxed and more sort of confident. When I started, first two sessions I was just listening to him and then I realised he had so many tools in his armoury. Then I decided to make things simple rather than using all the tools,” mentioned Saqlain Mushtaq.
He further went on to say that the leggie is a very skillful bowler. The progress that he is making might look slow but is surely happening, reckoned Saqlain Mushtaq. “I think he is a very skillful guy and I am seeing the improvement in Adil Rashid, slowly but surely going in the right direction,” he added further.
Adil Rashid was also in full awe of the bowling coach. He cited that Saqlain has a great experience of playing in these conditions. That is surely coming in good use for all the bowlers.
“In the past, he has been a world class bowler. So picking his brains. He especially knows these conditions. For him to give his suggestions on the pitch, the field settings, the batsmen tactics and stuff. So he has been a massive help for all of us,” said Rashid about Saqlain.
