Opening batsman for the Indian Cricket Team Shikhar Dhawan has been in fine form with the bat, and many are trying to unravel the secret behind his stellar batting. Meanwhile, his wife Aesha has recently revealed some other secrets about “Gabbar” from off the field. On a popular chat show, she described how she met the star cricketer for the first time and then fell in love with him. Unsurprisingly, it all started with Facebook!
Aesha, who is based out of Melbourne, was speaking to Shibani Dandekar on Miss Field, a popular chat show when the anchor asked Aesha how she met Shikhar for the first time. Mrs Dhawan immediately responded by saying, “Thanks to Facebook!”
Aesha Dhawan started off as an amateur boxer. She shared that she initially began speaking to her current husband over Facebook. According to her, Shikhar was the one who struck up the conversation when he followed her on Facebook after having seen her in the boxing ring. Aesha, in fact, took five minutes to accept the left-hander’s friend request.
How did it all start?
While speaking on the show, she said, “I was friends with some of the older cricket players because I always loved cricket and sports and everything, and then he had seen a photo of me in a boxing ring and he tried to add me. Straight away, 5 minutes into accepting him. He was like chatting with me and I was like wow.”
However, their story had its fair share of ups and downs. Firstly, Aesha was a divorcee with two daughters and was also 10 years older than Dhawan. His family was therefore not pleased with the relationship. Nevertheless, despite all the obstacles, the couple tied the knot in 2012. Aesha and Shikhar are now happily married and have also been blessed with a son named Zoravar.
Mrs Dhawan is often spotted cheering her husband from the stands, especially alongside Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika. Currently, the couple is in Dubai since Shikhar Dhawan is on national duty, representing India in the Asia Cup. The opener has been leading at the top of the order along with partner Rohit. Dhawan has already scored two centuries in this edition of the Asia Cup and will feature in the final of the tournament on Friday when India take on Bangladesh in Dubai.
