While social media is definitely a boon, one cannot deny that sometimes it has also turned out to be a bane. The boom of social media has helped the fans get closer to their beloved cricketers more than ever. But at the same time, one will also have to admit that a number of fans and others have used the platform for wrong reasons too and recently Afghanistan star Mohammad Nabi faced a similar situation.

On Friday, the news of Mohammad Nabi’s demise started to spread like wildfire on social media. The shocking reports suggested that the veteran cricketer passed away due to a heart attack. But before things could get out of control, the veteran himself took to Twitter to confirm the hoax and said that he is well.

Only a few hours before the hoax started, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had shared pictures of the Afghan cricket team’s practice session at the Kabul Stadium, where Nabi could also be spotted. With ACB not providing any sort of update on the issue, the cricketing fraternity feared the worst. In the end, Nabi himself had to clear the rumours as he called them ‘FAKE’.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “Dear friends, Alhamdulillah I am all good, a news disseminated by some media outlets about my demise is FAKE. Thank you,” wrote Mohammad Nabi.

This is not the first time, something like this has happened with a cricketer. Last year, India star Suresh Raina had also faced a similar situation. Several YouTube videos circulated all over social media, suggesting that the left-handed batsman has passed away. Later, Raina himself took to Twitter to clear the rumours.

Mohammad Nabi to focus on white-ball format:

The ace all-rounder, meanwhile, recently brought down curtains on his Test career. The one-off Test against Bangladesh last month was his last. Mohammad Nabi could not have asked for a better goodbye as Afghanistan crushed Bangladesh to register a historic win in Chattogram. Nabi is one of the biggest stars of Afghanistan cricket. He is one of the only three Afghanistan players who play in the Indian Premier League.
