Afghanistan will have a chance to assess where they stand before the World Cup when they take on Ireland in the forthcoming series, scheduled to be played in Dehradun, India. Afghanistan have been playing their home games in India since shifting base from UAE in 2015. In 2015, Afghanistan played against Namibia in the ICC Intercontinental Cup match before hosting Ireland for a full-fledged series a year later.

But last year, they had to shift their bases again, this time from Noida to Dehradun after the stadium lost its status to hold any BCCI-conducted games. In May last year, Afghanistan had made their debut in Dehradun when they hosted Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series. Afghanistan had gone on win that series 3-0.

It is undoubtedly one of the most exciting teams in world cricket at the moment and will be looking for a similar kind of performance when they take on Ireland as it will be their last assignment before they lock horns against the bigger teams in the World Cup.

The full-fledged series between the two teams, meanwhile, has been rescheduled due to the Indian Premier League (IPL).  The series was originally set to end on March 23 – which is the start date of the IPL. However, both the teams recently agreed to advance the end dates of the series. Consequently, the tour, which includes three T20Is, five ODIs and the first Test between the two countries, will start on February 21 and end on March 19.

Afghanistan arrive in India

The Afghanistan team, meanwhile, arrived in India on Sunday (January 20). The cricket team’s official Twitter handle posted the news, confirming that the players will be participating in a training camp in Bangalore before locking horns against Ireland.

“Afghanistan National Team departed for India this morning to participate in a training camp in Bangalore ahead of the series against @Irelandcricket that will be held from 21st February to 19th March 2019 in Dehradun, India,” read the tweet from Afghanistan Cricket Board.
