Afghanistan players gain big in the latest ICC T20I rankings
Rashid Khan continues to rule the charts.
Afghanistan defeated Ireland in the recently concluded three-match T20 International series by 2-0 and their players have gained points in the latest ICC rankings. Hazratullah Zazai was the star for the visitors as he opened the inning and pummelled the Ireland bowlers to score 156 runs in two matches. The third match of the series was abandoned due to the incessant rains in the lead up to the game.
Zazai’s heroics with the bat helped him achieve his best career ratings with 514 points and has jumped to the 39th place in the batsmen rankings. Mohammad Shahzad, despite failing to impress continues to be the high-ranked Afghanistan batsman at the 13th position with 647 points. Meanwhile, Samiullah Shenwari (55) and Shafiqullah Shafaq’s (98) poor returns with the bat has led to both slipping by five and four places respectively.
Rashid Khan continues to be at the top
Rashid Khan, the leggie, scalped 8 wickets in two matches and continues to rule the charts in the ICC bowling rankings in the shortest formats. He has 793 rating points to his name and has extended his lead to 70 points. Shadab Khan is currently second and is way behind with 723 points. Mujeeb Ur Rahman surged up a massive 25 places to reach the 38th position after a decent show with the ball.
Mohammad Nabi lost his place from the top 10 bowlers and slipped two places to stay at the 11th position after picking only a couple of wickets while Hamza Hotak also slipped seven places. Ireland endured a poor series and that was reflected in their rankings as well.
As far as the team rankings are concerned, Afghanistan continue to be at eighth position with 92 points ahead of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Ireland is 17th in this list and they will have to up their performances by a long mile to surge up in the rankings.
