The last months have been difficult for Afghanistan cricket. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the cricket in the country dried up completely. Like other countries, the consequences of the pandemic have created major losses for the cricket boards. Along with this, there are other factors such as pay cuts which have been frustrating for any cricketer.

However, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has quickly got back on its feet as well. The players have started training as well. However, there is no confirmation on when and against whom will they play their next international match. Amidst all this, a piece of particularly bad news struck the Afghanistan cricket.

Afsar Zazai’s car has been completely damaged

Wicketkeeper-batsman Afsar Zazai on Saturday suffered a car accident and was injured. The national team’s Test wicketkeeper last played a match against West Indies last November in Lucknow. It was a Test match which Afghanistan lost. The news of his accident was shared by a senior journalist and the former media manager of Afghanistan Cricket Board, M Ibrahim Momand. He uploaded the news via his official Twitter handle.

In the tweet which was uploaded by Momand, we can see the damages caused to Zazai’s car. It has been damaged quite badly but the cricketer didn’t suffer any facial injury or anything else. He did get a head injury though. In the image which was uploaded by Momand, Zazai was seen with some injury marks on his head. The journalist wished for his speedy recovery through the tweet.

Afsar Zazai is one of the best wicketkeeper-batsmen in Afghanistan currently. Having made his international debut way back in 2013, the 26-year-old hasn’t really had the best of opportunities so far. Mohammad Shahzad had filled in the spot for the first choice for the longest time. However, when he wasn’t included in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 due to injury concerns, Zazai replaced him and played all the six matches.

But, he hasn’t been given a regular spot in the ODI set-up as of now. In the Tests, he is the regular keeper for the national team. He played three Tests, 17 ODIs and one T20I for Afghanistan so far.
