The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is all geared up to host their IPL-style T20 league called Shpageeza Cricket League. The auctions for the Cricketing league was conducted yesterday involving International cricketers from Bangladesh, New Zealand, Pakistan and Zimbabwe.

The league was earlier carried out on a smaller-scale involving only cricketers from Pakistan and Zimbabwe, who travelled to Afghanistan in a rather low-key affair.

“We have already received great response from the cricketers. This is the first time that so many international cricketers will be playing in this franchise-based league,” ACB CEO Shafiq Stanikzai said from Kabul.

The tournament will witness six teams/franchises which are all owned by Afghan industrialist. The cricketing board has already obtained the approval from the Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE and Canada for the league.

Although Afghanistan National team’s home ground is in Greater Noida, the league is being held in Afghanistan with the aim to popularise the game in the country and also to make people realise that it is entirely harmless for the International sides to compete in the country.

In the auction, Bangladeshi all-rounder Sabbir Rahman got sold for a sum of 7,00,000 AFN to GP Kabul Eagles, while fellow opener Imrul Kayes went for a sum of 7,00,000 AFN to Arif Azeem BoostDefenders. On the other hand, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal went for a huge sum of 2.1 million AFN to Muslimyar Speeneghar Tigers. West Indies power hitting all-rounder Reyad Emrit for a similar sum to that of Sabir and Kayes.

Afghanistan cricketer Nasir Jamal went for a sum of 4,40,000 to the Wazirzai Mess Ainak Knights while Noorulhaq was sold for a huge sum of 1 million AFN to Almasafi Amo Sharks. Younus Ahmadzai, on the other hand, was sold for 15,50,000 AFN to Muslimyar Speenghar Tigers.
