Coronavirus pandemic has brought the life to a standstill. More than 7 lakh cases have been identified so far across the world with almost 34,000 of them losing their lives. Like the other countries in Asia, even Afghanistan has been affected with 120 positive cases in the country so far. Four people have died while only a couple of them have recovered.

The frontline provinces of Afghanistan are under lockdown at the moment, poor people and daily wage workers are suffering there as well. And Afghanistan cricketer Aftab Alam has come forward to help them. The pace bowler has donated 2 lakh Afghan Afghani (INR 198,466) and has also helped them with the essential grocery.

This is an extremely heartwarming gesture from Aftab as this is the moment when everyone has to come together and help each other during the tough times. This will also inspire the other cricketers from the country to raise their hand and offer their help to the poor and hungry people.

Aftab Alam yet to feature for Afghanistan since the World Cup

As far as Aftab Alam is concerned, he last played for Afghanistan in the World Cup in England in 2019 and was replaced midway through the tournament under exceptional circumstances. He played only three out of seven matches played before being ruled out which was surprising as the 27-year-old had fared decently.

Aftab Alam picked four wickets in the World Cup with the best coming against New Zealand where he registered figures of 3/45. Overall, Aftab has picked 41 wickets in the 27 ODIs he has played thus far while he also has 11 scalps to his name in the 12 T20 Internationals for his country. He will be hoping to don the Afghanistan jersey soon once the country and the world recovers from the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Indian cricketers are also not behind in terms of donating and helping the needy people. While the BCCI has led from the front donating a whopping Rs 51 crore, the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan among others have done their bit personally.
