After accomplishments and learnings in 2019, Jasprit Bumrah is looking forward to 2020

India pace ace Jasprit Bumrah had a remarkable 2019 even though he missed quite a few series during the year because of the stress fracture. But the 26-year-old feels it has been a year full of “accomplishments, learning, hard work and making memories” and is looking to make the full use of whatever the new year had to offer. Bumrah has been out of the game for over four months now and took a hat-trick in his last outing for India in a Test match in the Caribbeans in August.

Bumrah ends 2019 as No.1 bowler in ODIs

Jasprit Bumrah, who made his Test debut in early 2018, had two fabulous back-to-back years in the longer format and will look to carry the same form into his third year in the red-ball variety. He played a crucial role in India’s first-ever series win in Australia and also ended up as India’s most successful bowler in the ICC World Cup 2019 with 18 wickets from nine matches.

The pacer ended up as the top bowler in ICC’s ODI rankings in 2019 while in Tests, he finished sixth. In 12 Tests, 58 ODIs and 42 T20Is, the skiddy paceman has taken a total of 216 wickets. Bumrah has been picked in the India squads for the upcoming limited-overs series at home against Sri Lanka and Australia in January.

“…On the last day of the year, I’m looking forward to everything that 2020 has to offer!” he said in a tweet expressing his excitement about the turning over of the decade. He also acknowledged the learnings and accomplishments of the year 2019 posting a collage of number of pictures along with a tweet.

Bumrah was supposed to play for his state Gujarat against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy recently as a comeback step but BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly asked him to concentrate on white-ball cricket for the time being and not rush through. The bowler himself was apprehensive about carrying a big load in domestic cricket while making a comeback.

India’s next red-ball assignment is some time away as they will play New Zealand in their next Test series towards the end of February and early March. Bumrah is now set to make a direct return to international cricket in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah though finished a low 47th in the ICC’s T20I rankings, he became only the second Indian cricketer other than captain Virat Kohli to be picked by Wisden for its T20I team of the decade.
