Mark Boucher was recently appointed as the head coach of the South Africa cricket team until 2023. Soon after taking the charge, the former said that he will ask AB de Villiers to come out of retirement and play again for the national side. Now, Faf du Plessis, the Proteas skipper has given out his opinion on bringing back his former teammate back into the national side.

AB de Villiers bid adieu to international cricket back in 2018 but went onto play different T20 leagues. He is arguably the best hitting batsman in the history of cricket. However, his decision to retire from cricket left everyone shocked that he took just a year before the World Cup 2019. Everyone was expecting him to be the part of the mega event and help South Africa in winning the title but that was not the case.

Faf du Plessis says the decision will be taken before the next T20I series

Faf du Plessis said that the discussions have been going on from last three to four months. However, a decision still needs to be taken over AB de Villiers’ return. It is known that Test cricket is quite important but at the moment T20I format is a different beast.

He also added that the T20 World Cup is not very far away and there is not a long list of T20 international games left in their couch over the season. As per Du Plessis, the important decision will be taken before the next T20 international series.

“Those conversations have been happening two or three months ago. Obviously Test cricket is the most important thing right now but T20 cricket is a different beast. It’s not a lot of time away from home. Obviously with a full campaign you have to spend a lot of time on the road.

“The T20 World Cup is not too far away and there isn’t a long list of T20 Internationals over the season. Those conversations have taken place and they will take place before the next T20 International series starts,” Faf du Plessis said as quoted by Sportstar.

However, South Africa is currently gearing up for the four-match Test series against England that will begin from 26th of December (Boxing Day Test) at Centurion.
