The Indian cricket team, led by Virat Kohli, were treated to a warm welcome in Kerala when they landed at Thiruvananthapuram in a specially chartered flight from Mumbai after a delay of one hour. The team arrived on Tuesday to be welcomed by thousands of fans at the airport. Meanwhile, they were also received by musicians and traditional percussionists while fans cheered for their favourite cricketers.
India are in the state capital for the fifth and final ODI against the Windies which is to be played on Thursday. The hosts currently hold a 2-1 lead and will look to clinch the series on November 1. After a disappointing outing in Pune, India registered an emphatic 224-run victory over Jason Holder’s side at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu led the charge for the Men in Blue with fine hundreds.
Kohli on a recording-breaking spree
Virat Kohli himself has been in tremendous form in the ongoing series. He’s broken record after record, has scored centuries at will and has asserted his dominance as a world-class cricketer. Kohli recently stormed into an elite club of batsmen with more than 10,000 ODI runs, becoming the fastest man to get to the five-figure mark. He also managed to score three back-to-back hundreds in the first three ODIs of the series.
The skipper was delighted to be in ‘God’s Own Country’ – as Kerala is known – for the upcoming encounter against the Windies. Such was his appreciation for the beauty of the state that the cricketer took time off to share a special handwritten note of appreciation in the visitors’ book at the Kovalam Ravis Hotel.
“Being in Kerala is nothing short of bliss. I love coming here and love the energy of the whole place. The beauty of Kerala is something to be experienced and I would recommend to everyone that they come here and experience the energy of God’s Own Country. Kerala is surely back to its feet and absolutely safe to come to. Thanks to this amazing place for making me feel happy every time I am here. Love and wishes, Virat Kohli,” the masterful batsman wrote.
