Ahmed Shahzad penalised for misbehaving with umpire
Ahmed Shehzad, the former Pakistan opening batsman, has found himself on crossroads with the law keepers of the game, for misbehaving with the on-field umpire in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy game at National Stadium, Karachi. His unruly actions have attracted a fine from the match referee, the Dawn reported.
The incident took place during a match between Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and Habib Bank Limited (HBL) in Departmental One Day Cup when Shehzad, the skipper if the Habib Bank team, reacted to the umpire’s decision at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Subsequently, the match referee Anis ur Rahman reported the incident to the management, who decided to charge him with Rs 20,000 penalty. Things became sour for Shehzad after the SNGP later went on to win the match by six wickets after chasing a target of 194 runs with 44 balls remaining.
The right-handed batsman, who was once compared and rated equal to Virat Kohli, has been facing a tough time making a comeback in the side. His disciplinary issues have got him out of favour more than his form which many believe is not a concern with the highly talented cricketer. Back in 2009, when Shehzad made his international debut, he was one of the most highly-rated finds of Pakistan’s domestic circuit.
So far he has had a really great time in the ongoing Quaid E Azam Trophy having smashed a century and a half-century. But, it seems that he is draining away all the good will with his unacceptable behaviour. Improving his nature is very crucial for him, especially at a time when a staunch disciplinarian Inzamam-ul-Haq is at the helm of the section affairs. The incoming of Inzi has been doing wonders to the Pakistan team and he has already hinted at zero tolerance to players filled with ego.
