Out of favor Pakistani opening batsman, Ahmed Shehzad has been making quite some noise when it comes to getting the attention of the selectors. The right-handed batsman last played an ODI and Test in 2017 for Pakistan and a T20I in 2018. Since then, he has been making runs in the domestic cricket and the Pakistan Super League.
Shehzad has been constantly courting trouble off the field as well. He was banned for 5 months by PCB last July for violating anti-doping regulations, after testing positive for a prohibited substance. Initially banned for four months, Shehzad’s ban was lengthened by 6 weeks for breaching the ban terms by participating in friendly matches in Pakistan.
Though he apologized for his mistake, PCB refused to alter the length of his ban. He did manage a return to the PSL 4, winning the title with Quetta Gladiators and even had a talk with Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar about how to make a comeback into the Pakistani team. Many supporters of the team even mentioned that Shehzad should have gotten a chance in 2019 World Cup after a poor performance from Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman in the tournament, where Pakistan failed to make it into the semi-finals.
He recently did a Q&A on Twitter with his fans. He has a huge following on social media with 2.1 million users following his profile on the short messaging platform. During this session, one user @umarforfun messaged him “Please Retire #ask Ahmad”

This seemed to be a cruel way to respond to an international cricketer, but instead of going off the handle and doing something he might regret, Shehzad merely replied with a funny quip. “Oho. Unfortunately, I still have 12 years left in me I believe. U got to live with it,” replied Shehzad.

It remains to be seen if Shehzad is successful in his bid for a comeback, given that there are many changes being made in the PCB with Misbah in line to becoming the head coach and new selectors slated to be named for the upcoming season. Given the form of the present Pakistani openers, it looks like Shehzad should be getting a call for comeback sooner than later.
