25-year-old Ahmed Shehzad is a character in world cricket. He is an aggressive batsman, and has played 13 Test matches, 81 ODIs and 53 T20Is for Pakistan so far. He has close to 1000 runs in Tests and averages of 40-plus. In limited overs cricket, it dips a little to the 30’s and 25’s. He has failed to reach the 30-mark in his last 4 ODIs and is currently struggling to hold his place in the team.

It was earlier reported that in a bid to regain his lost form, the batsman will consult a psychologist. He is currently taking part in the National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi and planned to undergo multiple sessions with the experts. According to Media sources, British psychologist Dr. Taimoor will work with Shehzad on his game.

Decent run in the domestic circuit

The opener, who made his debut in 2009, did pretty well in all the three matches against World XI in the Independence Cup. He scored a match-winning 55-ball 89 in the third and final T20I. The cricketer has done well in the domestic circuit.  Legendary former cricketer Wasim Akram has come out in defense of the Shehzad. “I don’t know why people are against Ahmed Shahzad, he is still young, he is still playing good cricket, if he is having an off form, I have no problem with it,” Wasim said, while talking to the media.

Akram also added that he has no business and is not bothered by people’s criticism. “I am not concerned with people and their criticism,” he said.

Afridi’s advice to Shehzad

Earlier, Pakistan’s former captain Shahid Afridi, who is also a good friend of Shehzad, suggested that Shehzad should concentrate on playing his natural game. “I feel if he plays his natural game, he will perform better. Meanwhile, if he starts defensive cricket, he can’t perform,” Afridi said.
