Ahmed Shehzad lashes out at media for spreading groupism rumors
Pakistan opener Ahmed Shehzad denied any groupism rumors within the team, after Pakistan’s exit from the World T20. He said the main aim for the team was to win the World T20 and the whole team should share the responsibility of Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.
23-year-old Shehzad said that he was unable to eat anything after Pakistan lost to Australia and had to bow out of the tournament, having won only one match against Bangladesh. He said that the media should be blamed for causing a rift in the team by spreading rumors of groupism in the between the team.
He said during an interview with a Pakistani newspaper, “Believe me since we lost the match I couldn’t eat properly. The tournament is not over for us but unfortunately the media and some people are spreading irresponsible rumors about groupism in the team. As a human being you can give your best and try but not always are you successful.”
The rumors of groupism were also quashed by former captain Shoaib Malik, before the match against Australia in their group at Mohali. He said similar kind of rumors were spread by saying that 6 players of the squad that played in the World T20 2009, were at loggerheads and did not talked to each other.
“To me, all this speculation is baseless. Just to add to that, I want to say that six of us were not talking during the World T20 in 2009 but we still managed to win the title,” Shoaib Malik said.
“Afridi is like my elder brother and I cannot even imagine betraying my country which is our mother. I cannot think of doing anything wrong.” Said Shehzad on the topic of rift, with the Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi.
