Ahmed Shehzad named in Pakistan’s probables for Sri Lanka ODIs and T20Is
Shehzad hasn't played international cricket for more than 15 months now after failing a dope test.
Misbah-ul-Haq, the Pakistan head coach, has named a 20-man probables for the upcoming ODI and T20I series at home against Sri Lanka. The fixtures will get underway on Friday, September 27 with the One Dayers and will continue until Wednesday, October 9. Ahmed Shehzad also found his way into the scheme of things, having last played international cricket more than a year ago.
The 27-year-old failed a dope test last year in June and made his comeback for the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Quetta Gladiators in the 2019 edition of the PSL. Then he played four List A matches for Federal Areas in the Pakistan Cup. The likes of Usman Shinwari and Faheem Ashraf, both of whom missed out tantalisingly on a World Cup berth, have been picked for the training camp.
No Junaid Khan for the camp
Junaid Khan was left out of the provisional squad for the mega event and there’s no sign of him in the probable’s list. Mohammad Rizwan topped the yo-yo test last month and he also got a couple of tons versus Australia earlier this year, but he wasn’t picked for the World Cup. He is one of the two keepers in the list along with Sarfaraz, who has been retained as the captain for the series.
Along with Sarfaraz, Babar Azam was appointed as the vice-captain after his stupendous show in the World Cup and then for Somerset in the T20 Blast. Wahab Riaz lately took a break from red-ball cricket and he’s made the cut as well. Mohammad Hasnain was given a NOC to play for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League, but that has now been cancelled.
The youngster has been named for the training camp as well. Imad Wasim and Hasan Ali, both of whom got married of late, are set to be back. Abid Ali was one of the players, who couldn’t make the final World Cup squad after making the initial team, and he’ll be looking for one more chance.
