Aiden Markram surprised after his selection into the national side

Titans batting star, Aiden Markram, surprised himself as he was one of the last few to realise that he was called up into the national side for the upcoming Test Series against England starting in over a week’s time. Markram found himself in an intriguing selection battle with Heino Kuhn, who was ahead of the race for his selection in the national side.

In the 31 first-class games he has played so far, Markram has already amassed as many as 1950 runs in his career at an impressive average of almost 42. He has reached the three-figure mark five times in his career along with 8 half-centuries and a best of 184.

Markram was a part of the South Africa ‘A’ side who were engaged with the England Lions when he realized that he was selected in the South African squad. He scored a crafty 71 in the first innings of the game. The right-hander admitted that the Heino Kuhn deserved a place in the squad but it was his selection which surprised him.

Markram slotted in place of Faf du Plessis

“I found out after day three of the England Lions game, I was very surprised, as all the other guys had received their calls a couple of days earlier. Heino and I have never felt any tension in terms of competing for spots. If there’s anyone who deserves to get a run, it’s definitely him. He has helped me a lot over the past couple of years and is a true definition of a team player.” commented Aiden Markram according to South Africa Cricket Mag.

He later stated that he was slotted in place Faf Du Plessis but he went on iterate that there were many others who deserved a spot ahead of him as well.”I was told I’ll be there as a back-up batsman for Faf. But I haven’t discussed my role with anyone and I’m not expecting anything to happen. I think there are players ahead of me in the queue that really deserve to play.” said the honest South African

“I don’t think anyone would turn down an opportunity like that down. I’m extremely excited to join the squad. There’s going to be so many people and opportunities to learn from and, as a fairly young player, I don’t think I could ask for more.” concluded an excited Markram
