Ajay Devgn calls Virat Kohli the ‘Tanhaji’ of Team India
The actor also went on to recall his days on the cricket field.
Bollywood actor, Ajay Devgn recently while promoting his upcoming film, centred around the Maratha Warrior by the name of Tanhaji Malusare, called the Indian captain, Virat Kohli, the ‘Tanhaji’ of Team India. Kohli has been in the form of his life and has been amassing mountains of runs year after year. In 2019, Virat scored 2,455 in international cricket and ended a year on a high by winning a three-match T20 series against the West Indies at home.
The 31-year-old is also holds the top spots in ICC One Day and Test batsmen rankings. Speaking on the pre-match show ahead of the abandoned T20I between India and Sri Lanka on Star Sports, Devgn shed praise for the Indian captain. Comparing him with the character that he will be playing in his upcoming film, he said, “Virat Kohli is the Tanhaji of team India. He is confident, aggressive and wants to win at any cost,” Devgn was quoted as saying in Latestly.
It is not the first time that Kohli is being lauded for his mentality on the field. His will to win and put in all the effort it takes to win a match and maintain his own flow of runs has made every enthusiast praise him.
The actor also went on to recall his days on the cricket field. Speaking about his role in his playing days and the injuries he incurred, he told, “I was a batsman. When it comes to memories, there are plenty – My finger had chipped when I tried to catch the ball, it is still twisted.” The actor also while on the show made a ‘gully cricket team’, with Bollywood actors playing different roles in the squad.
Tough challenges lie ahead for Virat and his men
Virat Kohli is currently leading the Indian team in a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The first match in Guwahati on the 5th of January had to be abandoned due to wet pitch. The next match is to be played in Indore on the 7th of January. It will be a must-win match for both the sides if they want to win the series.
The year 2020 is going to be a tough one for Virat and his team. Following this series, there are bilateral ties to played against New Zealand, England and Australia. Also in October, one of the toughest yet rewarding tournament awaits him. The T20 World Cup,scheduled to be played in Australia later this year will be a great chance for him to redeem himself after missing out on winning the 50-overs tournament in 2019.
