The India team has been exemplary during the entire length of the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. They have managed to decimate oppositions with disdain and remained unbeaten in the tournament. While Manjot Kalra’s master with the willow guided India to glory in the Final against Australia, Shubman Gill emerged as the highest run-scorer and also was declared the Player of the Tournament.
Apart from the players, Rahul Dravid has been outstanding as a mentor and has received accolades and praise from the cricketing fraternity. He was hailed as India’s best coach by Virender Sehwag and rightly so, bearing in mind the results he has produced as a coach. Most recently, Ajinkya Rahane also spoke about Rahul Dravid and mentioned the victory as a proud moment for the nation.
Rahul Dravid- India’s hand-holder
They have been really lucky to have Rahul (Dravid) bhai as coach and mentor, plus all the support staff as well. They have been working really hard for the last one and a half years. I am really happy. It’s a very proud moment for all of us,” Rahane said
Rahane also heaped praises on Prithvi Shaw’s boys and expressed his joy of seeing the juniors celebrate their victory. ”I watched a little bit (of the match) in the morning. I saw their celebrations and was really happy the way they celebrated. It’s a proud moment for all of us,” Rahane said on the eve of India’s second ODI against South Africa.
Ajinkya Rahane has been outstanding for India in the opening game at Durban. While doubt still revolves around Rahane’s batting position in ODIs, he has been able to perform well in the last few months in the 50-over format. Meanwhile, he will look to carry forward his form in the upcoming games for India in the ODI series and cement his position in the lineup.
