During India’s second Test against Australia on day two, it was Ajinkya Rahane who troubled the bowlers in front all the way. The stand-in skipper was up with his great willow show while shouldering his responsibilities. He brought in his 12th Test ton at MCG to let India have an upper hand over Australia on day two of the Boxing Day Test. He was supported well enough by ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who scored 40 runs.
At the end of day two, Jadeja and Rahane remained unbeaten and will be keen enough to seize the day on the subsequent days. Seeing in light Rahane’s brilliant ton at the crucial hours, Australia’s legendary bowler Glenn McGrath stepped up to appreciate his efforts. He stated how captaincy brought out the best of Rahane as a batsman, and he got his aggressive side.
“Rahane has looked good. He is enjoying being captain, I think. Rahane, the way he has batted today, he has just looked solid. He is focused even more than he was in Adelaide. I guess being captain, it just helps you do that,” said McGrath at end of the second day on the Sony Six show
A lot of work to be done: Ajit Agarkar
India was reeling at 64/3 and looked vulnerable yet again before the role was taken up by Rahane. He stitched a robust partnership of 52 runs with Hanuma Vihari to push the team ahead. In the same line, Indian former Ajit Agarkar also lauded his innings while referring it to be’ marathon innings.’
“Very determined. Again, the bowling has been really good. They perhaps had a little bit of luck, which they didn’t have at all in Adelaide. Rahane, in those two partnerships, with Vihari and Pant has put India in a really good position. But still, a lot of work to be done,” Agarkar stated
“The bowling has been good as well; you have to respect that too. The bowling has been relentless, and you have got to work hard. Maybe being captain, that added responsibility, sometimes people just thrive under it, and he seems to be one of them. He has been very determined, almost a Pujara role,” he added.
