The yo-yo test has created quite a bit of stir in the Indian cricketing fraternity. A number of cricketers, including the likes of Mohammed Shami, Ambati Rayudu, and Sanju Samson have faced the wrath of elimination courtesy of the somewhat tricky examination. It has also opened up places for fringe players who are waiting in the wings for quite a while.
The test took place on June 15 and Rayudu, who was jaw-dropping in the IPL, was left out of the team for India’s upcoming assignment. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, the national team’s fulcrum in the limited-overs set-up, is yet to take the test and will undergo the same today. Ajinkya Rahane, who led the team in the historic Test versus Afghanistan in Bangalore, has been put on standby.
Can Rohit survive the heat?
Rahane has been kept in the loop as Rohit previously drooped in the examination as many as twice during the Indian Premier League. He is currently sweating it out at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The Mumbaikar had taken prior permission from The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in order for the test to be conducted today.
The board introduced the test in order to make fitness a compulsion for players to cement their spot in the team. A cricketer has to pass it with flying colors or they have to sit out. Skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri have set their parameter on 16.1 in the test and the same is also the eligibility criteria for others.
Kohli, who sustained a neck injury also underwent the test and fortunately got over the line much to the delight of him as well as his team. His maiden county stint with Surrey was canceled, but will he take part in India’s two T20Is versus Ireland. For the time being, Rohit will have to walk the tightrope and ensure no more hiccups in the exam.
